Choosing the best area rug for your Seattle home

Choosing the best area rug for your Seattle home

Selecting the perfect area rug is an important part of your home décor process. It is not just a simple matter of popping a new rug down and calling it a day. There are many different styles, colors, and types of rugs to choose from so give yourself some time to find what works best for you and your Seattle Area home.

Select the Best Size

Area rugs come in all shapes and sizes so first decide how big of a space you want to fill and choose accordingly. Measure out where you want to place your rugs so that you can see if they will fit appropriately or not. If you have a large area, sometimes you can break it up into two or three different areas, which is where smaller area rugs come into play. One of the most common mistakes is to use too small of a rug. A general rule of thumb states that an area rug needs to extend at least 2 feet around the designated area.

Use your home's primary colors

Determine if your new area rug will be an accent or your primary color when choosing an area rug. Make sure colors compliment each other and according to your space. If it’s more on the smaller size, consider getting a multicolored area rug to bring some personality to the space. If you are trying to brighten a room, lighter-colored rugs help tremendously!

Take into account the foot traffic in the area

Consider how much traffic will be in certain sections of this area rug. Is it in front of the door entrance? If so, then you might need to consider getting a rug with material that can withstand wear and tear. A high-quality rug pad to protect this investment and keep it lasting longer. Also, if possible avoid placing an area rug over carpet especially if it’s plush carpet because this can cause indentations in your new expensive investment and can ruin look over time.
